There are three main video formats that product founders use to acquire customers on TikTok
1. Real human perspective of the value offered (not commercial videos)
2. Repeatable short video series
3. Story time videos from the founders
Case Study 1: Tripbff (human perspective)
Isabella Comelli the CEO and co-founder of Tripbff uses short videos on Instagram and Tiktok to show tourists and solo travelers what Tripbff can do for them by showcasing the experiences herself.
Tripbff is a mobile app that helps solo travelers find friends during their solo adventures.
Isabella is a solo traveler herself and uses the app to show other solo travelers exactly what it does, where she goes, who she meets and the adventures she goes on.
All her videos are normal phone recorded videos so that her audience can genuine relate with her experiences.
The app gained over 600,000 downloads in less than a year and a similar number of followers on Instagram. On Tiktok they are currently at 47K followers with multiple videos hitting over 500K views.
Her video format is simple; show where they went, who they met, the fun they had and how the app helped.
Tripbff has done so well that they got a competitor app called goingsoloapp, which in just as short a span, has acquired 250K plus users and 164K followers on Instagram.
Case Study 2: Repeatable video series
This is where you find one thing that is fun or funny and somewhat relevant to your startup and do it repeatedly, in each video you change the concept slightly or incrementally.
Examples;
A guy tries to see how many sticks of spaghetti it takes to hold his weight. Then he tries to see how many coat hangers. Then he tries to use sheets of paper. Etc etc. All the same video, minimal effort but will go viral every time.
A guy drinks a cup of milk for every 1000 followers he has. Everyday it’s the same video where he drinks milk but people continually tune in because they want to see him suffer and drink hundreds of cups of milk. Will go viral every time.
In your case it could be something about how your customers find it hard to do a certain task and have to use tour product to make their life easier.
Jenni Ai a copy writing tool (startup) used this one video format to generate over 500K USD in revenue in a year. Read more about this here ( https://buildingafrika.com/a-tiktok-series-made-this-app-500000/ )
Case Study 3: Story Time Videos.
Story time videos are a Tiktok views and conversion magnet. Here a person simply tells a story of an event that happened in their lives, no selling anything. The goal is to connect genuinely with other humans on the app.
As you are telling your story, you can have the product strategically placed and people will naturally ask about it. If the story is related to your business or service even better.
People talk about their relationships, life events, meetings with random people etc.
Story times videos are pretty simple and they generate over 2 million views every month on the lower end.
If you don’t know where to start, use the examples above to get going.
